So you fell in love with one of our puppies and want more information about purchasing your puppy. Here is some more information to answer any questions you may have. If you have any that are not answered here please feel free to contact me!
Now that I found a puppy I want, what is the next step?
My website is updated daily, so any puppies marked available should be available. However, email me first to make sure that it is. To hold your puppy we require a deposit from $100 to $500 depending on purchase price. This deposit is non-refundable unless something happens to the puppy while in my care or if something genetic pops up with that puppy. This protects us from holding a puppy for 8 weeks and having somebody change their mind at the last minute.
What do you accept for payment?
We accept postal money orders and cash only. We no longer accept personal checks. Your puppy will be pending until we receive your deposit. If we do not receive a deposit within four business days, the puppy will be marked as available again unless other arrangements have been made. The puppy must be paid in full by 8 weeks of age. If the puppy is not paid in full by 8 weeks of age, the deposit is forfeited and the puppy will be listed for sale again unless you have made other plans with me at the time the deposit is put down. We ask that the puppy is picked up by 8 weeks. We understand that people may have plans they cannot change so we will hold puppies for up to an additonal two weeks for $10 per week. Arrangements MUST be made by 6 weeks of age if you need us to keep your puppy past 8 weeks. We have too may puppies not picked up until 10/12 weeks of age and we prefer our puppies to be in their new home so that they can start the bonding process with their new families. The longer they are here, the more attached they become to us and it's just not fair to the puppies.
Why are your prices higher than the puppies I see in the paper?
I have had several people ask me why my prices are higher than the puppies they see advertised in the paper. We do not use the paper to advertise. There are too many puppies being advertised there by back yard breeders/puppy mills. I always use the saying, "You get what you pay for". Our adults are hand picked to produce quality, well bred, even tempered puppies. We do not breed aggressive, submissive, or dogs with poor structure. We do not breed dogs that produce genetic defects. We only breed sound, healthy dogs. They are all fed a high quality dog food. They have monthly heartworm and flea prevention. They are all kept UTD on their vaccinations. We also use preventative care for things like giardia, coccidea, and we worm every 3 months to ensure that our adults are all healthy. Healthy adults produce healthy puppies. Our puppies are born in our home. I am there for every birth and I "imprint" the puppies as soon as they are born. If I have a weak/small puppy I bottle feed that puppy every 2.5 hours around the clock until it no longer needs it. They are handled by us daily and they are socialized with children, other dogs, as well as cats. They are raised around normal household noise. They are happy, healthy, well rounded puppies by the time they go home. We update new families with weekly pictures of their new puppy so they can watch them grow. They are wormed at 2,4,6, and 8 weeks with pyrantel. They are given their first shot at 8 weeks so that the level of mothers antibodies in the puppies bodies is lower to make the shot more affective. We do a fecal sample at 6 weeks to ensure they are healthy. They are given their first bath at 6 weeks and are all bathed and groomed before going to their new home. They come with a puppy pack and a puppy starter kit to get them started in their new home. This is why our puppies cost more than puppies advertised in the paper. We want you to spend your time bonding with and enjoying your new puppy. Not spent taking the puppy to the vets. We would rather you spent money spoiling your new puppy then paying for vet care for a sick puppy.
Do you start your puppies on any kind of housetraining?
Yes. Our puppies start potty pad training at 4 weeks of age. They do a wonderful job of using the pad to do their business. Our puppies do not go outside until 72 hours of receiving their first vaccination to protect them. We feel that potty pad training them gets them ready for future housebreaking and is easier for them to housetrain than if they were just allowed to go wherever they wanted. Also giving them a designated place to do their business keeps them cleaner and healthier.
Why is there a difference in pet price versus full AKC? What does this mean?
Full AKC registration allows you to register any future puppies from your puppy and also allows the puppy to be entered into AKC shows. Pet price puppies are sold on a spay/neuter contract and cannot be bred. They must be spayed by 6 months of age. Most people just want a doxie to love and don't care either way about papers. We do not feel they should pay the same amount as another person who plans to breed their dog and in turn get money for the puppies. We also prefer to sell our puppies as pets vs. breeding so we feel the lesser price offers an incentive for people to purchase them as pet only.
I live in another state. Can I still get a puppy from you?
Absolutely! We offer shipping to most US locations for a fee of $250. This price consists of the actual ticket for the puppy to fly, the airline approved crate, a health certificate to fly, and covers our gas to the airport. It is a 2 hour drive for us one way to the airport. We do not charge for our time but we do charge for our fuel. We have been using Continental for 6 years now to ship and we are extremely satisfied with their services. The puppies are well cared for and they are temperature controlled. We will use another airline if your airport does not have Continental fly into them. Please check with your local airport to see what carriers fly into there before putting your deposit down on a puppy or ask me if you aren't sure and I will find out for you.
I am still not sure about buying a puppy over the internet. Why should I trust and buy a puppy from you?
We understand how scary it can be to purchase a puppy you have seen on the internet. We have tried our hardest to create a website that would give you a clear view of our adults/puppies and tell you about us to help you feel more comfortable. We know that buying a new puppy is very exciting but can also be very stressful. We try to make your buying process as easy and stress free as possible. You are more than welcome to come and see your puppy before putting down a deposit. I do not let my puppies be handled by anybody outside my home until 8 weeks of age when they are vaccinated. But you are more than welcome to come and meet me and see your puppy. I do have references available by request. We breed dachshunds because we simply love it and it shows in our puppies. We love them and we know you will too! We want your adventure of getting a new puppy to be a happy, exciting time so that you will enjoy every minute of owning a puppy from Lexi's Doxies. We love our puppies and we know you will too. We pride ourselves on knowing that you trust us enough to get your new family addition from us.
If you have any further quesitons PLEASE feel free to ask. No question is a bad question!!
